Klaviyo: checkout booster and LTV audiences
Klaviyo is not an ad platform, but ROASaurus works with it in four ways: it identifies checkout shoppers, keeps customer audiences in Klaviyo lists, counts Klaviyo email clicks in attribution, and reports the profit of your campaigns and flows.
| Klaviyo at a glance | |
|---|---|
| Checkout booster | Shopify checkout; public API key (site ID) |
| Events backfilled | Viewed Product, Added to Cart, Started Checkout |
| Audiences | Audiences synced to Klaviyo lists daily; private API key |
| Profile properties | roasaurus_* segment, revenue, predicted 12-month LTV, expected next 12 months, orders, last order |
| Email profit | Campaign and flow results as Klaviyo reports them, next to ROASaurus attribution and contribution margin |
| API scopes | lists:write and profiles:write for audiences; read access to campaigns, flows, metrics and lists for email profit |
1. Checkout booster
When a shopper Klaviyo doesn't know yet types their email or phone at Shopify checkout, ROASaurus identifies them through Klaviyo's client API. It then records Viewed Product and Added to Cart for each item in the cart and Started Checkout, with timestamps a little in the past so they land in natural order. Your browse and cart abandonment flows can then fire for that shopper. Shoppers Klaviyo already recognizes are left alone.
The booster runs in the ROASaurus custom pixel in Shopify checkout. With Respect visitor consent on, it runs only for shoppers who allow marketing cookies.
2. Audiences from your customer data
With a private API key, ROASaurus keeps an audience in a Klaviyo list every day. Build it on the Audiences page from all customers, an RFM segment from Customers & LTV or your own rules, such as predicted LTV, products bought, lapsed customers or cart abandoners. Only people with marketing consent are sent. Each member gets profile properties such as their segment, revenue, predicted 12-month LTV, expected value over the next 12 months, order count and last order date. Use them to target or exclude people in Klaviyo.
As a safety rule, on a list with 30 or more members, a run that would remove more than a third of it, or empty it, is not applied. The audience shows as paused until the next run is stable.
3. Popup contacts and email clicks
When a visitor submits a Klaviyo on-site form, the ROASaurus script links that email to the visitor (it never reads keystrokes). Visits from Klaviyo emails, with the _kx parameter, a utm_source of klaviyo or a utm_medium of email, count as the email channel in attribution.
4. Email profit
Under Channels, ROASaurus reads Klaviyo's own campaign and flow reports: recipients, open and click rates, and the orders and revenue Klaviyo attributes, with Placed Order as the conversion. Next to them it shows its own numbers: orders whose journey has a Klaviyo click, credited under your attribution model, with revenue after refunds, contribution margin and profit after Klaviyo's monthly cost. A Klaviyo dashboard adds list growth and list sizes.
How to connect
- In ROASaurus, go to Tracking & platforms, click Add pixel on the Klaviyo card and paste your public API key (the 6-character site ID).
- On Shopify, add the ROASaurus custom pixel in Settings › Customer events so the booster runs at checkout.
- For audiences, add a private API key with
lists:writeandprofiles:write, then create an audience on the Audiences page and add Klaviyo as a destination. - For email profit, connect Klaviyo under Channels with a private key that can read campaigns, flows, metrics and lists.
Limits
- The checkout booster works on Shopify only.
- Klaviyo's own campaign and flow revenue shows in the Channels reports only. Attribution counts email through clicks.

Questions, answered
Does the booster send emails?
No. It only identifies the shopper and records their product views, adds to cart and checkout start in Klaviyo. Your own Klaviyo flows decide what is sent.
Which Klaviyo keys do I need?
The public API key (site ID) for the checkout booster. A private API key with lists:write and profiles:write only if you want ROASaurus to keep audiences in Klaviyo lists, and one that can read campaigns, flows, metrics and lists for the email profit reports.
Can an audience sync wipe my list?
On a list with 30 or more members, a run that would remove more than a third of it or empty it is paused instead of applied. The audience shows "paused" until a later run is stable.
